A yoga student of mine came up to me after class & asked why I close my eyes a lot during class so it got me thinking that probably other students have that same question. I explained to her that when we close our eyes, we’re able to go inside or what we call in yoga (pratayhara – withdrawl of the senses) so that we’re not distracted by the outer world and can focus on what’s going on in our inner world. There is a difference when we see things vs. having our inner vision. In meditation, you see most people sitting with their eyes closed so they they can get in touch more by what’s going on inside. Try it and see if it helps when you’re practicing. It also allows us to follow our inner wisdom, 6th chakra: ajna where we house our inner intuition and inner wisdom.
