Millions of reasons to be grateful

Is the only time you’re mindfully thankful when you sit down at the Thanksgiving table? Why not practice your gratitude skills by mindfully thinking of 3 things that you are grateful for on an everyday basis? What are 3 things you are grateful for in your life at this moment?

You say, “oh, sure that’s easy: family, food and good health.”

· What would you say on Day 2?

· How about Day 3?

· Would it be the same?

Is that difficult for you to come up with 3 or do you come up with a million of things? Most of us think of gratitude this month mainly because the Thanksgiving holiday is coming up. Some of you say a prayer thanking your food and the farmers who grew the food to nourish your body every time you sit down to eat. Can you start to practice gratitude every day? Here’s an example: every night before I go to bed I try to tell myself 3 things I was grateful for that happened during the day. I honestly feel like it’s a magnet similar to the law of abundance. The more I practice gratitude in my daily life, the more blessings the universe sends me even if they’re super small!

Help! How can I do this consistently?

Let’s start to think outside the box and really start with how your day begins. Even just thinking about the bed you slept in & sending gratitude to your bed allowing you to heal during your sleep, all of your dreams from sleeping in it, the pillows to rest your head on, the blanket and comforter to keep you warm. Maybe from there you head to the bathroom where you brush your teeth, wash your face, go the bathroom and take a shower or bath. Sending gratitude to your plumbing to allow you to enjoy the convenience of cleansing your body and keeping up your personal hygiene. From there you head to the kitchen where you send gratitude to all of your appliances like the refrigerator which keeps all of your food fresh, the tea or coffee maker where you can conveniently make yourself a nice warm cup to enjoy, your stove and oven to cook the nutritious food that gives your body fuel for the day and the dishwasher which cleans your dishes. Just practicing that allows you to see things from a different perspective. Every situation that comes your way in life, you can practice gratitude even in the darkest moments. Easier said than done, right? You can ask yourself what lesson the universe wants you to learn & be grateful for it as it helps you navigate your life’s path.

Gratitude challenge:

I challenge you from now until Thanksgiving to focus on 3 new items or people to be grateful for. You can also visualize throughout the day those 3 things that you’ve picked & mentally send a loving hug of gratitude to those items. Some folks like to have a specific gratitude journal where they can write these 3 new things down on a daily basis. Whatever those 3 things are that you chose for the morning, as you lie down in bed at night right before you fall asleep tell yourself one more time,

“I AM GRATEFUL FOR

1.

2.

3.

Try it and let me know how it goes!

In all my live yoga classes for the entire month of November, we practice cultivating gratitude. Some of my yogis after class say they have a hard time coming up with things & especially when ask them to come up with different ones each day. Are you feeling that way & not sure where to start?

Try this! Start with where you’re sitting right at this moment. Are you in a house, apartment, mobile home? Practice being thankful for the roof over your head & move on from there. Start when you wake up in the morning.

Other ideas: Even utilizing a gratitude journal can be very powerful to write down 3 things you’re grateful for on a daily basis. Practicing yoga to experience love and compassion for others.
